Love the Delavier training books. However the core training fell short of it's other books, such as strength training anatomy. The breadth of exercises seemed too narrow. Also, the anatomical drawings that are a hallmark of this series of books, and which help me more than looking at real time photos, were not as frequently utilized for this book. I was disappointed.Still a good resource, but not the best of the Delavier batch.
I have had two lumbar surgeries, but still lift weights 5 days a week. I couldnt work my core very well from the back issues. This book got me around that. Goes well with strength training anatomy and the strength training anatomy workout.
I am 61 years young and have been a Personal Trainer since 2009. Books like this give a complete and comprehensive Step By Step way to a Life long solid Core. Forget Fads like Crossfit etc.......this book has superb diagrams, photos, and explanations to with reasons why the body needs the core to enhance All other physical activities. My clients and I spend months first developing a Core Before we proceed to Bodysculpting or their sport specific needs. Do what this book says with discipline and consistency and you will get safe, long lasting Results.
If you lift, you need to know your own muscle anatomy. No one illustrates that better than Frederic Delavier. This may be the best sports anatomy lesson that a layperson can get. Delavier's French fitness models aren't hard on the eye either, even with no skin on.
Th exercises, illustrations, and explanations are all very useful and useable. Of particular use are the small comment boxes that list the advantages, disadvantages, and (particularly) the risks associated with the exercises. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is there is no rating of each exercise as far as effectiveness. I have seen such rankings before, based on hard scientific measurements, but they've been small - only comprising a few exercises ( Wikipedia has such a list of 6 or 8 exercises, and also includes the risk factor).
Great core training book. Frederic Delavier nails it with his series. I would highly recommend this book to all ages.
I was very let down by this book. An overkill of an OPINION on how to train the core, and way under done with illustrations. And completely unorganized, not simple to follow. i think the author and publisher thought "how can we re_capitalize?" And so what they should have done is made a more complete and modern Strength Training Anatomy, instead of thias half-baked idea of a training book.. Because of this i am afraid to buy any of his other books, with the exceotion of: Strength Training Anatomy which is awesome and i have bought version 1 and 3 for myself and copies for clients.. But this core version is a sham...not worth the $, should have been included in Strength Training Anatomy as another section.
As someone who wants to head into the gym more AND is a pre-med student, this book is perfect. It has many workouts; both beginner and advanced, do's/don't of each exercise, and even a good amount of muscle anatomy diagrams that I have actually used in class!!
